CALLENSBURG – Few towns the size of Callensburg can boast of having been the subject of more than one history book.
But with the recent release of “Callensburg: A Small Community, Book Four,” documentation for this Clarion County community can now be found in four books by local author Arnold Kepple.
He said the book is the fourth and final in his series on the history of the Borough of Callensburg and the Township of Licking.
“I said that about the last one too,” he joked recently, noting that after his last book came out several years ago, “people kept giving me more articles.” and topics to study.
“I did a few interviews and continued,” he said.
Kepple published his first book Callensburg in 1976 to celebrate the community’s 150th anniversary. The page numbering, which began in the first book, continues in the last book, bringing the entire collection to over 1,400 pages of local history and photos.
The new book includes 209 pages with 424 photos, interviews and other features.
Some of the stories in the new book include individual family stories, Indian artifacts, ministry, prison life, the glass factory, agriculture, the Amish community, airplanes, pruning of trees, and the company of local fire department.
The new book retails for $ 15 and can be purchased at libraries in New Bethlehem, Rimersburg and Knox, as well as at Emery’s Outlet in Callensburg.
