Online stores have had the bad habit of sometimes skipping release dates. In the case of Immortals Fenyx Rising, for example, the Microsoft Store was a little hasty when it launched the game on December 3, three months ahead of schedule. There’s a chance it happened again. As spotted by VGC (via Reddit), an official art book for Hogwarts Legacy hints that the game will be released in December this year.
Amazon UK listed The Art and Making of Hogwarts Legacy: Exploring the Unwritten Wizarding World for an appointment on December 6. Normally, merchants like art books tend to come out alongside games to avoid potential early spoilers. The December release certainly suggests that Hogwarts Legacy will arrive on or before the date. According to VGC, the book had a placeholder date of December 31 before the recent change. As of this writing, the date of the book has not changed.
Of course, the date change does not guarantee that the game will arrive on that day. Hell, the book’s release date could change before the end of the week back to the more vague “December 31st.” Store leaks aren’t uncommon and aren’t always accurate. People once thought that GameStop leaked the April 26, 2016 release date for Mafia 3 — the game launched in October.
Never a guarantee
Hogwarts Legacy itself has already been delayed out of 2021. The game was originally supposed to arrive last year, but will now launch this winter. And again, just based on how the past few years have gone, there’s also no real promise that it will launch in 2022. Of course, it would be nice to see it happen in December or before, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Hogwarts Legacy is an open world RPG set in the magical and fantasy world of Harry Potter. It takes place around two centuries before the books, placing your bespoke character in one of the magical houses of the eponymous school of witchcraft and sorcery.
