The Prairie Art Book Fair is coming to Winnipeg

Winnipeg’s Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art is hosting the Prairie Art Book Fair September 9-11.

The fair will feature 15 vendors – including independent artists, art collectives, artist groups and publishers from across the Prairies and beyond – who will share an array of print and ephemera.

Vendors include BlackFlash Magazine, Border Crossings, Fillip, University of Winnipeg Gallery 1C03, MacKenzie Art Gallery, Martha Street Studio and University of Manitoba School of Art Gallery.

The fair, which includes a writing workshop with Saskatoon’s Apophony Press and a panel discussion with Edmonton-based food culture collective Hungry Zine, is free and open to everyone.

Meanwhile, the Vancouver Art Book Fair will not take place this year, although the fair will advertise independent events during Art Book Month from October 1-31.

Anyone can participate by planning an art book, comic, zine, or publishing-related event.

The fair defines an art book as a work of art that uses the form of a book.

“An art book is interactive, portable, mobile, and easily shared. It focuses on publishing as an artistic medium, often produced in small editions or as a one-of-a-kind project.”

The deadline for submission is September 15. For more information, go here.
