A beautiful new art book from the curator LaQuann Dawson honors New York’s vibrant queer community and directly benefits the LGBTQ-led nonprofits that serve it.
Created in collaboration with Impulse New York Group, Our light through the darkness is an anthology of evocative photos, illustrations, essays and poetry by LGBTQ creators. The works presented cover seven themes: Bold, Family, Fluid, Kinky, Love, Positive and Revolutionary.
Our light through the darkness is also Impulse Group’s creative solution to meeting its fundraising goals for 2021. Instead of fundraising at its usual in-person event, the organization is asking for charitable donations from OurLightThroughDarkness.com. A minimum donation of $ 35 will get you a hard copy of the book, with all proceeds going to Destination Tomorrow and GLITS, Inc., Impulse Group’s community partners. The books will be shipped next month.

Talk to NewNowNext, Dawson describes the anthology as a “love letter” to the homosexual NYC. âThere’s something so romantic about the distance – not being able to see the people you love in person, but still thinking of them,â he says. âHaving pictures to share with them, things you want to tell them and an urgent need to express your love and admiration. That’s what this book is, a response to love and distance.
With the âuncertainty, exhaustion and isolationâ of the COVID-19 pandemic, interconnection is more important than ever. “I pray that Our light through the darkness gets you in a good mood, âadds Dawson. “I hope you see yourself and know that you are loved, know that you are worthy of it. Know that you are seen and that you are needed too. Realize how alive you are, how much you are. are present, how good you fly, how beautiful you are and how good.
