On July 23, multidisciplinary arts organization Women’s Studio Workshop in Rosendale will host its first-ever annual book fair. This book fair is part of the larger Upstate Art Weekend, which returns for its third year July 22-24 with over 100 exhibitions, performances and projects as well as 50 open studios.
Since 1974, the Women’s Studio Workshop has worked to create a space for artists to establish themselves and grow at any stage of their career. They strive to support all female, trans, non-binary, genderfluid and intersex creators with a complex of facilities for artistic creation, research, experimentation and exhibition preparation. Since its founding, WSW has brought over 5,000 artists to its space to create prints, photographs, art books, ceramics and other works of art.
WSW’s event will feature art books from over 30 independent artists, writers and publishers, and will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at their location on Binnewater Lane in Rosendale. At the Upstate Art Book Fair, attendees can purchase zines, artist books, and all-prints both inside the studio and outside on the patio at WSW. The event aims to create a welcoming platform for emerging and established publishers to sell their work, connect with each other, and share their work with the Upstate New York community.
The event will bring together creatives from local and across New York. Notable vendors include Secret Riso Club located in Ridgewood and Small Editions and Wendy’s Subway, both of Brooklyn.
After the book fair, there will be a free celebration from 7-10 p.m. which will begin with an opening exhibition from Passenger Pigeon Press, Childish Books and GenderFail, followed by a dance party.
